Water Baptism

Who Should Be Baptized

Christ Followers believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin; “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.” John 14:6. Therefore, salvation occurs only when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus as the total payment for their sin. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized.

What Baptism Symbolizes

Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus. It is an outward expression of the inner miracle that occurred in your heart at the time of salvation:

  • You accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

  • You shared in his death and resurrection, illustrated through baptism by going under the water (dying to your old life), then coming up out of the water again (experiencing a new life in Jesus).

  • You were symbolically washed clean, and your sins were forgiven by his death on the cross.

Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience for anyone who has given their life to Him. We believe that baptism is an anchor point in our Journey of following Jesus and it signifies a new identity that is found in Him. And although baptism doesn’t make you a Christ Follower, it shows others what took place in your heart at the time of salvation.
